Vincent Dion artist’s statement

High Alert is about being open to surprise as a certainty. A coiled rope rises in suspension into a billowing undergarment, opening as if to express wonder and astonishment. It was made after an alarming encounter with a venomous snake and the resulting veneration I felt, having briefly connected with a wild animal without incident for either of us.  My earthbound connection affirmed my vulnerability in trusting what I know and think I know as opposed to what I can be surprised to learn and embody.
